Family Heirloom
The love of miniatures and dollhouses has been felt by others in my
family. My Mom and sister had dollhouses and my Mom made miniature-related
things for a wedding and her children's school projects. One of my aunts
had many dollhouses and worked on projects for these for many years.
Another one of my aunts wanted a dollhouse for one of her daughters. So she bought a dollhouse kit and her husband put it together. My other aunt, as mentioned before, decorated the interior and exterior of the dollhouse and gave it back to my aunt for her daughter who intended to continue with its decoration. Years passed and the dollhouse ended up staying with my aunt, her daughter had moved out, and was played with by two of her grandsons.
Eventually, the dollhouse was given to me. Shortly after, my sister, who I mentioned before, asked if I could rehab a dollhouse for her granddaughters and that she wanted it to be one that my aunt had owned so it could be considered a family heirloom. I was more than happy to do this. Her granddaughters were eleven, five, and four years old. With their ages in mind, I figured that the furniture needed to be sturdy enough so that it could be played with. So it needed to be bought because the furniture I make is not for play. I tried to keep the decor modern.
This was so much fun to do! My sister loves it, and I was told that her granddaughters love it, too. I could not be there when they first saw the house, because of the pandemic, but my sister sent me a video of their reactions, and they seemed in awe of their "new" dollhouse.
